Sick and tired of resolutions that you never stick to? You may need a change of heart first before a change of habits can happen.
Benjamin Franklin said, “Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man.”
Oprah Winfrey, on the other hand, has a famous quote on a new beginning: “Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.”
As we enter a new year, let me share two inspirations for power. One shows us that power comes from faith and love. One believes the power is within you to imagine and create your future.
New Year, New Heart
It is good to be inspired and motivated at the start of the year. Like you, I looked for inspiration. I found one when I opened the gift of a young seminarian: an image of the Blessed Mother Teresa. She is regarded by many as a modern-day saint, practically a miracle away to being one. Her beatification in 2003, they said, took the shortest period in history (she died in 1997).
Mother Teresa was captivating for her words of love, knowledge, and inspiration. Her life was spent with the poorest of the poor. She cared for them like family. Going through her most famous quotes, I was touched by some that I would strive to do for the new year. I hope they inspire you to be better as well:
• Appreciate. There is more hunger for love and appreciation in this world than for bread.
• Be passionate. God doesn’t look at how much we do but at how much love we do it with.
• Love God. To show great love for God and our neighbor, we need not do great things. It is how much love we put in the doing that makes our offering something beautiful for God.
• Love others. The success of love is in the loving; it is not in the result of loving. Of course, it is natural in love to want the best for the other person, but whether it turns out that way or not does not determine the value of what we have done.
• Pray. Prayer enlarges the heart until it is capable of containing God’s gift of Himself.
• Smile. Let us always greet each other with a smile for the smile is the beginning of love.
Have a enjoyable and fruitful days ahead full of hopes and dreams. -philstar.com
