My life has had its ups and downs. There have been many hardships and struggles, but through it all, I have tried to remain grateful and stay focused on the positives along the way.
I have worked very hard, and consider myself extremely fortunate. I was introduced to Listen, Lucy through a work project for a client. I don’t believe in coincidences. Everything happens for a reason. I was touched by the stories, and by the incredible ripple effect of kindness and encouragement that can be generated – just by sharing these stories.
I have always found that you get what you give out of life. And even in the hardest of times, when I had nothing to give, and often relied on the kindness of others to just get by, I still had my smile. No one can take that away… and sometimes the only thing someone else really needs are a few kind words and a smile.
And so the kindness of a handwritten card containing “Pay It Forward” cards have inspired me so far in the following ways – I was driving my son to school this morning and there was a woman whose car had broken down in the middle of the road. She looks pretty upset so I pulled over and offered to help push the car to the side of the road. Well, I’m not exactly car-moving strong, but sure enough, 2 more vehicles pulled over, and a few gentlemen hopped out to help. The ordeal ended in a few strangers, smiling and wishing each other a good day.
I walked back to my car and saw the woman walking back towards me with a child about my son’s age carrying a backpack. As it turns out, we live in the same development, our kids are in the same grade, and I was able to give them a lift. It’s not like I had to go out of my way. Just made a tiny effort to be kind to a stranger.
Tomorrow, I have requested the day off to give a lift to a friend who is having surgery. Why? Because, why not? 🙂
I may never be rich in material things, but I am blessed with happiness and health. Making a conscious effort to look for ways to “Pay It Forward” only makes all the good energy shine more brightly around you. Choose each day to see the radiance of positivity going on around you, and reflect that back onto the world.
And so on, and so forth…
Thank you for being an inspiration. I promise to keep passing it on. ” -listenlucy.org
