Love only grows by sharing. You can only have more for yourself by giving it away to others.                           Brian Tracy

Sharing is one of the most important virtues which bring happiness in life. It is fundamental to the development and nurturing of all human relationships. Sharing brings with it inherent joy and happiness within us and also to the person with whom we have shared. To share is to spread joy. Sharing is a very important part of social and emotional development.

According to a study titled “A boost of positive affect: The perks of sharing positive experiences” published in 2012 in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationship, those who share their positive experiences increase their positive affect, happiness, and life satisfaction. The study found out that that positive affect, happiness, and life satisfaction reach a peak only when participants share their positive experiences. The research further determined other benefits of sharing a positive experience, such as making it easier to remember, the opportunity to learn new positive implications of our news from another’s perspective, and the extra joy we feel when making another person happy through our good news.

Apart from bringing joy and happiness, sharing also inculcates in us the virtue of caring. It teaches us the importance of taking care of others. Hence goes the famous adage: Sharing is caring. So, the virtues of sharing and caring need to be taught at an early stage to children to foster their moral development. When children are taught to share things, they learn to collaborate with the fellow children, inculcate the values of kindness and practice it, and do things that help the others. Caring and sharing are indeed positive behaviors that help children develop social awareness in their adulthood and learn to care not only about others but also their feelings, reactions, and perspectives.

These values have to be fostered both at home by parents and at schools by teachers so that they become an important trait in the personality of the child and remain with individual throughout his life. Creating and nurturing an environment that promotes a sense of sharing and caring is essential. For this, it is important that the child is encourage sharing through tasks and activities.

Sharing is more than a generous act. On a much wider scale, it is about cultivating strong relationships. True sharing implies empathy, the ability to get into another’s mind and see things from their viewpoint. Learning how to share also implies how to become a good human being and a more efficient member of the society.

Sharing with people thus provides a sense of unity and common purpose that deepens and propels our daily short-term and visionary long-term actions. Sharing is a basic component of human interaction, and is responsible for strengthening social ties and ensuring a person’s well-being. The joy of sharing and giving out things to others, who genuinely require it, can only be experienced and not be put down in words. – newdelhitimes.com
